Thomas E. Rutledge of West Creek, New Jersey, received a scholarship to the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art in New Jersey. Upon graduating, he began working as an illustrator. At twenty-three, he was offered a solo exhibit at the Bay Head (New Jersey) Cultural Center, but was drafted by the U.S. Army. He was wounded in action, and after years of therapy on his arms and hands, resumed work as an illustrator. Since then, he has illustrated magazine covers, books, and advertisements, and has done architectural renderings and sculptures. Thomas has received numerous awards and is a signature member of the Philadelphia Water Color Society, the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, and the New Jersey Watercolor Society. He is also a member and past President elect of the Garden State Watercolor Society.
